During a recent Big Bash League (BBL) game, the 25-year-old Australian cricketer Ashton Turner hit a bizarre six when his shot hit the roof of the stadium.

It was the game between Perth Scorchers and Melbourne Renegades at Docklands Stadium, (Melbourne) on this Friday (December 20). After losing the toss, Turner’s side Scorchers was losing their wickets in regular intervals from the beginning.

Coming to bat at no.5, Turner scored only 13 runs off 12 balls with that only sixer before losing his wicket. On the first ball of 13th over, when Turner was facing the pacer Daniel Christian, he had a top edge that went up to the air, hit the roof of the stadium and landed safely just outside the 30-yard circle where no fielder was close to catching that ball. It was the first time ever when the ball was hit on the roof of Docklands Stadium.

Umpires decided to award six runs and it was the only six of that innings. In the very next ball, Turner was dismissed by Christian. Scorchers was bundled out for just 103 runs in 19 overs which Renegades successfully chased in 15.2 overs after losing six wickets. At one stage, Renegades was struggling on 17/4 and 86/6 but the next batsmen Daniel Christian and Will Sutherland helped the team to chase that target without losing any other wickets.

Talking about that special sixer, Turner was not happy with that “sixer” decision. He felt that it should be declared as the dead ball.

Turner told cricket.com.au, “I think it’s a pretty bad rule. It saved me tonight … I think it’s not fair. It should be a dead ball – you can’t predict whether they’re going to catch it, so there’s no fairer outcome than a dead ball.”

On the other hand, Christian felt annoyed with that rule as he felt that it was a one-sided decision.

Christian quoted, “It’s a little bit annoying – I suppose if you’re batting, you’re happy, if you’re bowling, you’re a little bit annoyed about it. It’s an interesting rule, especially with something like the Spidercam which you have in the other international matches. If it hits that, it’s a dead ball. If you hit this roof, it’s a six.”
