Delhi Capitals (DC) began their IPL 2025 campaign with a thrilling 1-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the ACA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday. The nail-biting encounter had everything — explosive batting, sharp bowling, and a tense finish that kept fans on the edge of their seats owing to the brilliance of Ashutosh Sharma.
Batting first, LSG posted a challenging total of 209/8, thanks to fiery fifties from Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran. Marsh, known for his aggressive intent, blasted a quickfire 72 off 36 balls, setting a solid foundation. Pooran took charge later, hammering 75 off just 30 deliveries, tearing apart DC’s bowling attack.
Despite a solid start, LSG lost momentum as Mitchell Starc claimed three wickets, including the crucial scalp of Pooran, restricting LSG from crossing the 220-run mark. DC’s chase began on a rocky note as Shardul Thakur, a last-minute addition to the LSG squad, struck twice in his opening over. He dismissed Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel cheaply, putting DC on the back foot.

Manimaran Siddharth added to DC’s misery by dismissing Sameer Rizvi for just four runs. Axar Patel and Faf du Plessis tried to stabilize the innings, but their efforts fell short, leaving DC reeling at 65/5 in the seventh over.

However, Ashutosh Sharma stepped up when it mattered the most. His composed yet aggressive knock of 66* anchored the chase. Alongside Vipraj Nigam, who smashed a rapid 39 off 15 balls, Ashutosh steered DC to the brink of victory. Despite losing Nigam, Ashutosh held his nerve, guiding Delhi to a memorable win with three balls to spare.
