Ashwin Is Not Worried About His ODI Disappearance

Ravichandran Ashwin has been India’s premium spin bowler since Harbhajan Singh witnessed a fall in his form. He took several bowling records by storm in the Test cricket but couldn’t translate the same success in the white-ball cricket. The fall in the limited-overs cricket in so significant that he hasn’t played a single white-ball game for India since July 2017.

In his absence, India found great allies in Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav. The wrist-spinner duo has been sensational for India and won several games on their head. Thus, Ravindra Jadeja and Ashwin are finding it tough to make a permanent place in ODI and T20I format.

Meanwhile, the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in nearing but the selection will be done in a month or so. And selection committee will hardly think about Ashwin’s inclusion in the team as both wrist-spinners are doing exceptionally well for India.

However, Ashwin is not bothered by any such things and he is not under any kind of pressure. “I am not bothered about it [selection]. It is important to get better as a cricketer every day. I am getting better, and I am working on what I need to. I am not worried about anything else,” he told Sportstar.

Amidst, Chennai-born cricketer is gearing up to play another season of the Indian Premier League 2019, where he will lead Kings XI Punjab. He expressed his excitement to play the fellow spinners like Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who is running riots at the international level. Apart from him, KXIP has two spinners, who hail from Tamil Nadu. Murugan Ashwin and Varun Chakravarthy will strengthen KXIP’s spin bowling arsenal.

Ashwin further quoted “I am very excited about the fact that there are a couple of good spinners in my team. I am quite excited to have them. I have seen M. Ashwin very closely, he also plays in my league side in TNCA. I know Varun did well in the TNPL.”

“It [their selection] covers one facet of the department concerning spin. It is something I can watch closely and mentor. I am looking forward to learn a few things from Varun. IPL is a great opportunity. I really want to enjoy myself and excel in it.”

IPL 2019 will begin from March 23 in Chennai with the opening match is scheduled between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
