While the Asia Cup 2018 is in an important phase, an Afghanistan cricketer has reported to the Anti Corruption Unit that an Indian bookie approached him prior to the Pakistan clash in the Super Four stage of the tournament.

According to a report on Wah Cricket, an Afghanistan player was approached by an Indian bookie prior to the Pakistan match in the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2018 that was played on last Friday (September 21) at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Soon, the player reported that to his team manager who later talked with the Indian staff before reporting it to the Anti Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU).

The ACSU is already monitoring closely to the ongoing Asia Cup tournament after the five-time Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka’s early exit from the tournament. Featuring in the Group B along with Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Sri Lanka lost both the games in big margins after their weak performances.

Dubai is very well known for being a perfect hub for bookies and that’s why the International Cricket Council (ICC) is closely monitoring in every tournament that’s held at United Arab Emirates (UAE).

As the time progresses, Afghanistan cricket is evolving to the highly competitive level in the international cricket. In the ongoing Asia Cup 2018, after finishing as the Group B champion by beating both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the group stages, Afghanistan impressed in the Super Four stage too but just closely faced defeats against Pakistan and Bangladesh in that important stage.

Asia Cup 2018 is now in the final zone. While Hong Kong (Group A) and Sri Lanka (Group B) have been eliminated from the group stages; India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are fighting in the Super Four stage. After the second round in that stage, India has advanced to final of this competition while Afghanistan has left one game in the Super Four stage but can’t reach to the final. Meanwhile, Pakistan and Bangladesh will face each other on Wednesday (September 26) where the winner will advance to the final and will face India in the final on Friday (September 28) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium (Dubai).
