In the Super Four round match of Asia Cup 2018 between Bangladesh and Afghanistan at Sheikh Zayed Stadium (Abu Dhabi), Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim was dismissed through the run-out, but the dismissal remained questionable as some experts are supporting this while some experts are suggesting for the other option ‘not out’.

In the initial stage of the innings, Bangladesh was struggling against Afghanistan bowlers. After deciding to bat first, Bangladesh lost their first two wickets on just 18 runs. Opener Liton Das and the no.4 batsman Mushfiqur Rahim rescued the team from that difficult start and provided a 63-run partnership for the third wicket.

When Bangladesh seemed to get stronger, they lost back-to-back two wickets in the same over (19th over) as Liton Das (41) and Shakib Al Hasan (0) were dismissed.

In that tough period, the set batsman Rahim was the key man for Bangladesh batting and needed to stretch his innings. But unfortunately, he lost his wicket in a poor mix-up.

In that time, Rahim was at the non-striker end with the new batsman Imrul Kayes, who was batting on 4 runs. In that Rashid Khan’s over, Kayes and Rahim fell under a big mix-up that helped Mohammad Nabi to throw at the non-striker end and Rashid Khan got enough time to break the stumps as Rahim was well short from the bowling end crease.

However, the on-field umpire Nitin Menon went for the third umpire to check whether the stumps were broken under the rules or not. The replay showed that Rashid knocked off the bails with the right tricep and elbow area while the ball was also in his right hand.

The commentators were not sure about that decision as they remarked it as the ‘tight call’. After observing the replay from several angles, the third umpire gave the decision in Afghanistan’s favour. In the result, Mushfiqur was dismissed on 33 runs off 52 balls (2 fours and only six) while Bangladesh was struggling on 87/5.
