Accoridng to the latest reports of Sportstar, on Wednesday, the Asia Cup T20 2021 was scheduled to be taking place in Sri Lanka in June 2021. The decision has been made because of the worsening coronavirus crisis in the region, a top organizer has informed. Last year, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) went on to announce that the Asia Cup 2020 which was originally scheduled to take place in September 2020 was postponed till 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As per the quotes in Sportstar, talking to the reporters, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) chief executive Ashley de Silva said, “Due to the prevailing situation, it will not be possible to play the tournament in June this year.”

The SLC chief said the event might have to be put back until after the 2023 50-over World Cup because most teams have packed calendars and scheduled FTCs for the next two years. De Silva said the Asian Cricket Council would soon make a formal announcement.
Coronavirus infections have been spreading rapidly across South Asia in recent weeks, with many nations banning flights from the region. Sri Lanka on Wednesday announced a 10-day ban on airline passengers coming into the country. On the other hand, Sri Lanka’s national team is currently in Bangladesh to lock horns with the tigers for three ODIs.

Meanwhile, BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly has informed that India will be flying to Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series in July comprising of 3 T20Is and as many 3 ODIs. As per a report in Cricinfo, the second-string Indian team will reach Sri Lanka on July 5. Three ODIs will be played on July 13, 16, and 19, followed by as many T20Is on July 22, 24, and 27. All the matches are set to take place in Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
