Cricket Australia has officially unveiled the Australia A squads for their upcoming tour of India in 2025, with teenage prodigy Sam Konstas cutting the red-ball leg. The tour, aimed at preparing talent for future international assignments — including the 2027 Border-Gavaskar Trophy — comprises two four-day matches and three one-day games, to be played across Lucknow and Kanpur.

The four-day fixtures will be hosted at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, scheduled from September 16–19 and September 23–26. Following that, the three 50-over matches will take place at Kanpur’s Green Park Stadium on September 30, October 3, and October 5.

Konstas, a 19-year-old opener who made headlines with his brisk starts during his debut Border-Gavaskar series, has been included only for the four-day matches. Despite early promise, his form has dipped considerably, putting his Ashes 2025–26 selection in question. The India A tour presents a vital opportunity for Konstas to re-establish himself in red-ball contention.

Among other significant names, Cooper Connolly, Todd Murphy, and Nathan McSweeney—all with Test match experience—feature in the red-ball squad. However, notable absentees include Jake Weatherald, Jason Sangha, and Matthew Renshaw. Sangha, interestingly, is currently training in Chennai with the MRF Pace Foundation, which may explain his omission.

Speaking about the squad selection, Cricket Australia’s chief selector George Bailey emphasized the importance of subcontinent experience. “The subcontinent provides many unique challenges and the opportunity to utilise different skills with bat and ball,” Bailey told Cricket.com.au.

He added, “We hope repeated experiences in these conditions will help players develop an effective method and deeper understanding of their game for future subcontinent tours.” Bailey also noted the balancing act between international exposure and domestic commitments: “While we’re keen to track their short-form development, we also want them available for the start of the Sheffield Shield season.”
