Australia have announced their 15-member ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against India, with left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc making a much-anticipated return. Starc, who was rested during the recent ODI series against South Africa as part of workload management, will lead Australia’s pace attack in the home series starting October 19. His inclusion strengthens the Australian bowling lineup ahead of a busy cricketing calendar leading into the Ashes later this year.

With Pat Cummins still recovering from injury, Mitchell Marsh will continue as Australia’s ODI captain. Alongside Starc, the selectors have also recalled Mitchell Owen, Matthew Renshaw, and Matthew Short, providing the team with a blend of experience and emerging talent. Renshaw, in particular, has earned his return to the national fold after a prolific run in domestic one-day competitions for Queensland and Australia A.

Interestingly, despite being a consistent performer, Renshaw is yet to make his ODI debut for Australia. Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey will miss the first ODI in Perth as he will represent South Australia in the Sheffield Shield match against Queensland. His absence opens the door for Josh Inglis, who returns to the T20 squad after recovering from a minor calf injury.

Nathan Ellis also makes his comeback following paternity leave, while Glenn Maxwell remains unavailable due to a wrist fracture sustained during the New Zealand tour. All-rounder Cameron Green will continue his preparations for the upcoming Test summer with Western Australia following the ODI leg against India.

Chief selector George Bailey explained that squad rotation and player workload remain priorities as Australia look to balance their preparation across all formats. “We’ve named a squad for the ODI series and the first two T20s, with some management towards the back end as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Bailey said.

He further added that maintaining squad continuity in T20Is was crucial ahead of next year’s World Cup. “Most of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period leading into the World Cup. We’re striking a balance to ensure players are ready for both white-ball and red-ball commitments,” he concluded.
