Australia Cricketers Likely To Be Available For Rest of IPL 2021: Report

As the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) games of 2021 will resume in the UAE in the September-October window, some of the Australian players are expected to feature in the league. According to a report, apart from those who have already announced their unavailability, the IPL teams will have the service of their respective overseas players, especially from Australia.

However, the news has come as a relief to the IPL franchises after Australia’s limited-overs captain Aaron Finch had said that it will be hard for those who have skipped international duty to take part in the T20 league which will be played in UAE due to the COVID-19 situation in India.

“This is only my personal opinion, I think they would find it hard to justify going back and playing that second half of the IPL purely based on the workload coming up with a T20 World Cup then a huge home summer,” Finch told SEN WA while speaking to Adam Gilchrist. “It’s a tough situation everyone has been put in but personally I’d find it hard to do that knowing how challenging it is mentally and on your family.”

However, according to Cricbuzz, players like Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Daniel Sams among others may be available for the rest of IPL 2021. Meanwhile, last month seven Australia cricketers including Pat Cummins, Steve Smith, David Warner, Maxwell, Stoinis, Jhye Richardson and Kane Richardson had withdrawn from their upcoming tours of West Indies and Bangladesh as well.

While the bilateral series will provide them with the opportunity to brush up their skills and help their preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to take place later this year in the UAE, playing IPL 2021 games will help them too as the marquee event will be played in the same venue and that too will begin just two days after the cash-rich IPL ends. Now it will be interesting to see how things will turn up for the IPL franchises as well.
