On Tuesday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has replied to former cricketer Michael Slater’s ‘blood on your hands’ comment regarding the travel ban from India and called them absurd as well. Slater had slammed the Australian PM Scott Morrison for his ban on the passenger flight from India amid the surge of COVID-19 cases in the country. However, he also claimed that the PM has blood on his hands.

Australian PM again said that the likelihood of jailing or fining Australians who are returning from India amid the flight ban was “highly unlikely”. However, Morrison has defended the ban by saying “No, that’s obviously absurd,” he said to the Nine Network when he was asked about Slater’s comment.

“This is about getting more people home safely, preventing the third wave here in Australia. I think the likelihood of any of that occurring is pretty much zero,” Australian PM shared to Nine’s Today show.

It is also noteworthy that, Australia has shut down their borders and they are not even allowing any commercial flights from India due to the Covid-19 crisis. The ban will continue until May 15. Meanwhile, the government has also announced a 5-year jail term of a hefty fine for the people living there if they enter Australia after staying in India within their last 14 days of their arrival as well.

Notably, the decision was announced on Friday after a meeting of the National Cabinet to keep the Covid-19 surge in Australia under control. As far as the players are concerned, the likes of Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa and Andre Tye have already left India after quitting the IPL 2021 before the ban was announced. But still, 14 players have featured in the cash-rich league in India along with a few commentators from Australia as well.

Meanwhile, after Kolkata Knight Riders bowlers Sandeep Warrier and Varun Chakravarthy returned with positive results on Monday, Chennai Super Kings’ bowling coach L Balaji has also been tested positive as well. Later, Amit Mishra and Wriddhiman’s Saha’s positive result led the officials to postpone the league as well.
