The young batsman from New South Wales, Oliver Davies has impressed one and all during the ongoing U19 National Championships in Adelaide for hitting six sixes in a single over. Playing for New South Wales Metro, Davies smashed an extra-ordinary double century against the Northern Territory at Glandore Oval on Monday. He eventually went on to score 207 runs off just 115 balls with as many as 17 sixes to his name during the innings.

After getting to his ton in just 74 deliveries, the 18-year-old prodigy shifted gears dramatically and accumulated 100 more in next 39 balls. In the process, he went on to slam the off-spinner Jack James for 36 runs in a single over to achieve one of the rarest of milestones in the game. Davies also rewrote the record books by scoring most runs in an over in the history of U19 Championships.

As far as the match is concerned, the NSW team went on to win by a massive 168 runs with Oliver Davies also picking a wicket with the ball in hand. Here are the highlights of his knock:

Davies later acknowledged that he had the record insight and felt that he could go for it after managing to hit a couple of sixes off the first two deliveries. As per the quotes in cricket.com.au, he said, “After the first two sixes I had it in the back of my head I wanted to give it a crack and it paid off at the end. I was trying to target (the area) from forward square to cow corner as just getting down on the back leg, almost before it was even bowled, and trying to slog sweep them over mid-wicket.”

Oliver Davies’ knock was also the first One-Day double century ever in the U19 competition and also the first across all the formats since 2001-02 when Jason Krejza had breached the mark for the first time.
