The veteran Australian all-rounder, Ellyse Perry, has been ruled out of the remaining Women’s T20 World Cup. On Monday, she suffered an injury in her right hamstring while attempting a run out during Australia’s final group stage match against New Zealand and immediately left the field.
Explaining her injury, team doctor Pip Inge said, “Ellyse sustained a high-grade right hamstring injury that is expected to keep her out of the game for a significant period of time. We are currently exploring management options and will continue to support Ellyse through her recovery.”

Apart from a hamstring injury, Perry has been sustaining a couple of niggles as well, as her shoulder was also having some niggle and hip, leaving her doubtful for Australia’s game against the White Ferns. But she still decided to take to the field as Australia was playing a must-win match against New Zealand and her late cameo with the bat proving invaluable in the four-run win.
Perry’s injury means Australia will contest a T20 World Cup match without her for the very first time. She had featured in all 36 of her country’s games in on the ongoing Women’s T20 World Cup, a run stretching back to the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2009 when still just a teenager.
However, the Australian team management has yet to announce a replacement for Perry as she will remain a member of the 15-player squad.

Talking about Ellyse, coach Mattew Mott said, “Ellyse is a key member of our squad and has been for a long period of time and on a personal level we’re disappointed that she won’t have the opportunity to finish the tournament. She gives her absolute all every time she takes to the field for her country and that was evident again against New Zealand in the selfless manner in which she threw herself into her batting, bowling and fielding performances.”
