Avesh Khan emerged as the hero once again for Lucknow Super Giants, delivering a nerveless final over to seal a thrilling two-run win against Rajasthan Royals. While comparisons were quickly drawn between Avesh and Australian star Mitchell Starc, who had earlier defended nine runs in a similar last-over scenario, Avesh made it clear he isn’t trying to be anyone else.

“I don’t want to become Mitchell Starc, I just want to become a good Avesh Khan,” the pacer said with a smile at the post-match presentation. “Yorker is my strength, and I try to execute it. If I bowl with clarity, I can land it well.”

Despite giving away 37 runs in his four overs, it was Avesh’s spell in the death overs that swung the match in Lucknow’s favour. He took two vital wickets in the 18th over—dismissing the in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag—and then returned to hold his nerve in the final over, conceding just seven runs while also removing the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer.

Rajasthan seemed in cruise control, needing just 46 from the last five overs with eight wickets in hand. But Avesh Khan’s composure and clarity under pressure changed the equation dramatically.

“I don’t bowl looking at the scorecard. I just focus on execution,” he explained. “I didn’t want to concede a boundary in the first three balls of the final over. After David Miller dropped a catch, I had some doubts, but I backed myself to nail the yorker on middle and leg.”

With this match-winning performance, Avesh finished with figures of 3/37. His remarkable calmness in pressure situations has become a crucial asset for LSG, who now look forward to their next home game against Delhi Capitals on April 22.
