India’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel delivered a complete all-round masterclass in the fourth T20I against Australia at the Carrara Oval in Queensland, earning a well-deserved Player of the Match award. On a surface offering unexpected bounce and notable slowness, Axar adapted brilliantly—first contributing a vital late cameo with 21 off 11 balls*, and then returning to bowl a match-changing spell of 2/20.

Axar provided India with crucial breakthroughs just when Australia looked to build momentum in their chase of 167. He trapped Matthew Short (25 off 19) lbw with a sharp delivery and later cleaned up Josh Inglis (12 off 11) with a quicker one aimed at the stumps.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Axar revealed that he had assessed early on that the pitch was far from straightforward. He shared that conversations with the batters helped him understand the nature of the surface.

“The message was that the wicket had unexpected bounce and was a bit slow. I just held my position and hit the right lengths,” he said. Axar further added that he doesn’t prefer any specific batting position, emphasising his readiness to adapt based on the team’s needs. “Wherever the team needs me, that’s my favoured position. If I can deliver an impactful performance, that’s what matters.”

Discussing his bowling plans, Axar highlighted how he tailored his lines and lengths according to each batter’s strengths. “If a batter tried to hit me, I bowled a good length; if they attempted the sweep, I went fuller. The goal was to attack the stumps constantly,” he explained.
