The Delhi Capitals’ unbeaten streak came to a halt at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, as Mumbai Indians clinched a hard-fought 12-run win in Match 29 of IPL 2025. It was a tough evening for Axar Patel—not only did his side suffer their first defeat of the season, but the DC skipper was also fined by the BCCI for a slow over-rate during the contest.

According to an official IPL release, Axar was penalised INR 12 lakhs for breaching Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate requirements. Since it was Delhi’s first such offence this season, the fine was limited to just the skipper.

Delhi came into the game on the back of four consecutive wins and looked confident in their chase of Mumbai’s 205. With Karun Nair anchoring the innings and scoring a brilliant 89, the hosts seemed well on track at 135/2. But the dismissal of Nair sparked a dramatic collapse.

Leg-spinner Karn Sharma, playing his first IPL game in three years, turned the tide with a timely spell. Earlier, Nair had stepped in as an impact sub after an early wicket and smashed a quickfire fifty in just 22 balls—his first in the IPL after seven years—taking on Jasprit Bumrah with two sixes in one over.

Mumbai, meanwhile, finally had a reason to smile after a slow start to their campaign. Despite a late surge by Ashutosh Sharma, who struck two boundaries off Bumrah to keep Delhi in the hunt, the 19th over ended in chaos with three run-outs. The result gave MI their second win in six matches and injected some much-needed momentum into their campaign, while Delhi were left to regroup after a rare off day.
