Experienced spinner Axar Patel has returned to the Indian Premier League 2021 in a great fashion when he helped Delhi Capitals (DC) win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Patel was included in the team after he was having recovered from the global pandemic novel COVID-19.

Axar Patel bowled brilliantly on his comeback

After missing the first four games, Patel has bowled a tight spell claiming two wickets from his four overs spell and conceded 26 runs. However, he did exceptionally well in the Super Over which he bowled later and restricted SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) within seven runs. However, after the game, Patel revealed this to his Delhi teammate, Avesh Khan in an interview.

During the interaction, Khan has revealed that he was supposed to bowl the Super Over, as the head coach, Ricky Ponting, and captain, Rishabh Pant told that. However, Axar Patel went and convinced Pant that he would bowl the over. Avesh Khan asked Axar Patel how he convinced Pant, which made him change his mind as well.

“I was just thinking that it is very difficult to score runs against a spinner on this wicket. I felt a spinner would be much better than a fast bowler on this wicket,” Axar said in the video uploaded by IPL’s official Twitter handle. “I went to the captain and explained how it would be difficult for the left-hander to target one side of the boundary, and the right-hander can get out if he takes a chance while targeting the shorter side.”

After the win, the ‘Man of the Match’ Prithvi Shaw, who scored 53, added: “It was a good wicket in the first six overs and then it slowed down, but it was fine. I felt the wicket was behaving a bit slower, the spinners were bowling well. 160 was good enough to defend, but a close game. I am just doing all those stuff I have worked with. It’s helping me right now, so I think I should continue that.

I didn’t think about it (Super Over) but Williamson played fantastic. He played a really good knock. Axar bowled really well in the Super Over. I wasn’t there, I knew Shikhar bhai and Pant would go for sure because Rashid was going to bowl for sure. So, they wanted Pant and Shikhi to go and hit.”

They will now go to Ahmedabad where they will play against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 27.
