Axar Patel might be nursing a finger injury, but that didn’t stop the Delhi Capitals skipper from delivering a sensational moment of athletic brilliance during their clash against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13. The 29th match of the IPL 2025 saw Delhi Capitals opting to bowl first after winning the toss.

With the pitch expected to assist chasing sides, Axar backed his team’s ability to hunt down any total—and the DC bowlers stepped up. Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam led the attack with two wickets apiece, while MI still managed to post a solid 205/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to Tilak Varma’s 59 and Naman Dhir’s explosive 38 off just 17 balls.

But it was Axar’s incredible fielding effort that truly lit up the first innings. In the 18th over, with Mitchell Starc delivering a full ball to Naman Dhir, the MI batter unleashed a powerful lofted shot that looked destined for six over long-off. Axar, stationed near the boundary, timed his leap to perfection and caught the ball mid-air.

Realizing his momentum was taking him over the ropes, Axar showed sharp presence of mind by tossing the ball back inside the field just before stepping out. Although he couldn’t complete the catch, the save was just as valuable—denying Dhir a certain six and preventing momentum from swinging further in MI’s favor.

Despite bowling only two overs for 19 runs and going wicketless, Axar made his presence felt in the field. For a player not at full fitness, it was a testament to his commitment, grit, and leadership—doing everything he could to inspire his team. Moments like these remind fans why Axar Patel remains one of the most dependable players in the IPL.
