It isn’t a common phenomenon that athletes from different sporting disciplines have been compared but it also becomes inevitable in the days of globalization. We have seen people drawing a comparison between the Indian skipper Virat Kohli and Portugal football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the same breath, thanks to their international fitness levels. And now, a new comparison has surfaced and the personalities in focus this time as the legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Argentine footballer Lionel Messi.
Even though there is not much connection between Sachin and Messi apart from the fact that Tendulkar is retired and Messi still plays donning the No.10 jersey, still their comparison became unavoidable, thanks to Bollywood actor-singer Ayushmann Khurana.

It so happened that a Twitter handle by the name of ‘God’ applauded Messi after the Barcelona player scored a hat-trick against Sevilla in La Liga – his 50th in the career. It was natural for the player’s fans to celebrate the occasion in a special way and ‘God’, with over 5.7 million followers, did just that asking the Argentine to take over from him.
I'm leaving. Messi, take over.

Khurrana though was not convinced. As somebody from India where ‘God’ is only replaceable with the legendary Tendulkar, the actor replied to the tweet by ‘God’ saying “Sachin*”. His tweet also got a fair response.

Some of the social media users also got engaged in a debate over who among Tendulkar and Messi deserves to be the actual “God” for some said football has a much bigger base than cricket and hence the Argentine star was rightly called the “God”. To this, the Indian users said for them, it’s Tendulkar who is ‘God’ for them.
Tendulkar has 100 international centuries that he scored in his 24-year career that spanned between 1989 and 2013. Messi, on the other hand, has scored 32 of his 50 hat-tricks in Spanish La Liga and is yet two short of his rival Ronaldo’s 34. This year, though, Messi has already scored three hat-tricks while Ronaldo is yet to score his first.
