During the Benson & Hedges World Championship in 1985, former India captain, Mohammad Azharuddin had scored his maiden ODI half-century against Pakistan at Melbourne. The gritty and majestic innings also earned him his first ‘Man of the Match’ awards in ODIs.

In what was the first match for the Asian countries in the tourney, Javed Miandad, the then Pakistani captain, won the toss and elected to bat. Pakistan were bowled out on 183 in 49.2 overs. Qasim Umar was the top-scorer for them as he scored 57 (102) with the help of four fours. With bowling figures of 8.2-3-35-4, Roger Binny was the pick of the bowlers for India.

In the second innings, Imran Khan drew first blood in the form of Ravi Shastri (2). In what was his fourth match, Azharuddin walked in to bat at No. 3. Despite the fall of wickets on the other end, he did not seem uncomfortable for a moment. He stitched a 132-run partnership with the then Indian captain, Sunil Gavaskar (54).

India won the match in the 46th over and Azharuddin ended up scoring 93* (135), including four fours. Watch the full video:
