Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s big win over the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 12, had plenty of action on the field, but one light-hearted off-field moment quickly caught attention too. Star India all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer was left amused when a ball kid tried to touch his feet during the match.

Venkatesh Iyer immediately stopped the boy and asked him to move away, turning the incident into a funny moment that added a human touch to the high-pressure IPL 2026 clash. Iyer has had limited opportunities this season, having featured in only one of RCB’s four matches so far.

He was used as an impact substitute against the Rajasthan Royals, where he made an instant contribution with a brisk 29 off 15 balls after RCB had lost early wickets. On Sunday, though, RCB’s top-order fireworks meant he was not needed in the middle. Standing near the boundary rope, Iyer was chatting with the ball kid when the youngster suddenly tried to touch his feet.

On the cricketing front, RCB produced one of their most complete batting performances of the season. Half-centuries from Phil Salt, Virat Kohli and captain Rajat Patidar powered them to a huge 240/4. Salt led the charge with 78, Kohli made 50 and Patidar added 53, while Tim David’s quick 34 not out off 16 balls gave the innings a late boost.

Mumbai Indians fought back through Sherfane Rutherford, whose unbeaten 71 off 31 balls, featuring nine sixes, helped reduce the margin of defeat. Hardik Pandya also chipped in with a 40 off 22 balls, but MI never fully settled into the chase. Their powerplay was below par, and Rohit Sharma’s retirement hurt due to a right hamstring injury only made matters worse.
