Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali recently lavished praise on Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, highlighting his ability to outfox batters on any surface. Ali noted that Bumrah’s deceptive skills and unique bowling action make him a formidable force, independent of pitch conditions, unlike other bowlers who often rely on form and rhythm.
Jasprit Bumrah has earned a reputation as one of the finest pacers in world cricket, renowned for his accuracy and effectiveness. Across formats, Bumrah has played 195 matches for India, taking an impressive 397 wickets, including 12 five-wicket hauls. His standout performances in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament, further cemented his status as a world-class bowler.
In that tournament, Bumrah took 15 wickets in eight games at an extraordinary average of 8.26 and an economy rate of just 4.17, helping India lift the trophy.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Basit Ali emphasized Bumrah’s special ability to deceive batters, particularly with his slower deliveries, which work effectively in both white-ball and Test cricket. “Even on a cement pitch, Bumrah’s awkward action allows him to deceive batters. That’s why I call him Boom Boom, unlike others who depend on their form and rhythm,” Ali said.
He added, “Bumrah picks wickets with deliveries typically used in white-ball cricket, even in the Test format. It’s what makes him truly special.”
After the T20 World Cup, Bumrah was rested for India’s white-ball tours of Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, where India won the T20I series but suffered an unexpected 0-2 loss in the ODIs against Sri Lanka. Bumrah was also rested for the Duleep Trophy to prepare for the upcoming Test season.

Now, Bumrah is set to return for India’s two-match Test series against Bangladesh, beginning September 19. He will lead the pace attack alongside Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Yash Dayal. Bumrah’s last Test appearance was earlier this year, where he was India’s third-highest wicket-taker in the series against England, with 19 wickets at an average of 16.89.
