Despite facing the Bangla Test series, Virat Kohli has not been able to get himself into form. The star Indian batter could only score six and 17 runs during the first Test of the series played at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Kohli finally seemed more settled with his batting during the second innings as he faced 36 deliveries before getting trapped lbw by Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Virat Kohli did not appeal, which proved to be a bad move as he later had reasons to regret it. Refluxes confirmed that the ball very fleetingly passed over his bat before hitting his pads, thus he would have survived if Kohli had not used the DRS.

Former Pakistani cricketer Basit Ali, commenting on Kohli’s recent batting crises, said, “big players lose concentration against weaker teams.” Further to this, he said that the Bangladesh series is being used as an ideal preparation for the highly crucial Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia as Kohli has a good track record in Australia. And Basit believes that the tough competition shall reactivate the star batter Kohli.

“Virat will bounce back against Australia. He likes playing on pacy wickets, and bigger challenges bring out the best in him,” Basit Ali said on his YouTube channel. He added that Kohli’s focus tends to sharpen against stronger opposition and that Australia would be the perfect stage for his resurgence.

India, currently leading at the top of the World Test Championship points table, are in hot pursuit of their nearest challengers. Australia lead the second position after India successfully defended the Border-Gavaskar Trophy back to back-on both home soil this year as well as most recently during their visit to Australia.

Basit Ali says boastfully, “India will not let Australia reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy later this year.” Kohli will get a second chance to regain his touch during the second Test against Bangladesh that commences on September 27 in Kolkata.
