Bangladesh Cricket Board’s cricket operation chairman Jalal Yunus has resigned from his post with immediate effect on Monday. Jalal, who is also a director of the board, confirmed the development to Cricbuzz as well.

“I have resigned from the board for the interest of cricket,” Jalal said.

However, he is the first director to resign from the present BCB which is under scrutiny since the government has changed following the student protests as well. Changes are likely to come on the board in the future as BCB president Nazmul Hasan also wished to resign from his post as well. Notably, Jalal and Sazzadul Alam were nominated to the board as directors through the National Sports Council (NSC) quota, as the constitution allows NSC to have five councillors on the board as well.

While Jalal has agreed to step down, Sazzadul informed Cricbuzz that he has also received a call from the NSC secretary on Monday, requesting his resignation as both a councillor and a director as well.

“The secretary called me in the morning and said that I would have to resign from both positions. I told them that since the NSC nominated me as a councillor, I also became a director by that association. So, they should decide what they want to do with these roles and inform me accordingly,” Sazzadul told reporters.

BCB Chief Executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury described the meeting as productive as well.

“You’ve seen that our Youth and Sports Adviser visited the BCB office today. He reviewed the board’s facilities and seems to have plans to visit other federations in the coming days,” said Nizamuddin. “There was no specific discussion with anyone. The advisor spoke to several people in the BCB who shared their experiences. I don’t know in what capacity he (Tamim) came here. The advisor was here, and they spoke. I saw him with the advisor, but beyond that, I can’t say much,” he said.

However, amid recent political unrest in the country, the ICC has been exploring alternative hosts for the Women’s T20 World Cup, as Bangladesh had earlier decided to host the mega event. The ICC is expected to decide on the host after their meeting on August 20 as well. Nizamuddin further added that both the government and the Army have assured their full cooperation in hosting the tournament.

“We are fully confident in our preparations to organize the Women’s T20 World Cup on schedule. The government has been proactive, contacting us on their first day in office. The Bangladesh Army has also assured us of full support and cooperation. We’ve informed the ICC, and they are satisfied with our preparations,” Nizamuddin said at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Monday.

“The government has taken this matter seriously. We’ve already communicated about it. There are some travel advisories regarding entry into the country, which is a matter beyond the control of the BCB or ICC. The state is addressing this issue. Any progress will be reflected in decision-making. They are positive about our arrangements and have no doubts about our capabilities and experience. Travel restrictions are now their main challenge,” he added, noting that a virtual ICC meeting scheduled for tomorrow will be attended by existing board members. It is expected that the BCB CEO, along with a senior board director, will represent Bangladesh at the ICC meeting. However, this might not be sufficient, as Australian skipper Alyssa Healy has expressed concerns about holding the World Cup in Bangladesh,” he concluded.
