BCCI announces the domestic season for 2021-22

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday announced the domestic season in India, for the upcoming 2021-22 season as well. The season will begin on September 21, 2021, with the Senior Women’s One Day League and it will be followed by the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy, which is scheduled to begin from October 27, 2021.

On the other hand, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will begin from October 20, 2021 whereas the final will be played on November 12, 2021 as well. Meanwhile, the Ranji Trophy, which didn’t take palce last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, will be played from November 16, 2021 to February 19, 2022.

Apart from these, the Vijay Hazare Trophy will begin from February 23, 2022 and the final will be played on March 26, 2022 as well. A total number of 2127 domestic games ae slated to take place this season across various age groups of both the men’s & women’s category as well.

“The BCCI is confident of hosting the domestic season with health and safety of players and all people involved being paramount,” Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, has said in the media release.

However, the announcement of the domestic season will help several cricketers, who have been struggling during the crunch time of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even, their payments were impacted last season too. But the BCCI has recently announced that the new formed committee will look into compensation issues as well.

As far as International series is concerned, India will take on England in a five-match Test series against England in August. After that, they will take part in the rest of the Indian Premier League games which will resume in the September-October window in the UAE, followed by the much-awaited marquee event – T20 World Cup which will begin two days after the final of the IPL 2021 in the UAE as well.

However the BCCI has shared that they took the call keeping the COVID-19 situation in the country in mind but India will remain the host of the tournmnet.
