In the end, Karnataka defeated Hyderabad by 2 runs but the match came to the limelight because of an umpiring incident which saw the ugly rift between both sides during the break. The incident happened when Karnataka opener Karun Nair flicked a delivery off Mohammed Siraj over the mid-wicket and picked up a couple of runs.
Mehdi Hassan was the fielder, who ran towards the ball and picked it up before it could cross the ropes, in eh replay it was clearly visible that he had stepped on the boundary. The things turned around when the umpire Ulhas Gandhe didn’t confirm it with the third umpire for a video replay, with Karnataka ending their innings on 203/5.
When Karnataka came out to bowl, captain Vinay Kumar walked up to the umpire and two runs were added to the target, which was changed to 206 from 204, which annoyed Hyderabad skipper Ambati Rayudu. As destiny would have it, Hyderabad missed the opportunity to tie teh game by two runs as they folded up scoring 203/9 at the end of their 20 overs.
