Many major sporting events have either been postponed or canceled because of the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus. Cricket has also suffered a similar fate with many international and domestic matches being canceled. With no cricketing action, all the big clubs and major sporting associations are losing a lot of money. In order to sustain the losses, many several franchises and international cricket teams have been planning to implement pay cuts for all employees and their athletes. However, India’s apex cricketing body the BCCI says that they won’t be cutting the salaries of their players and other staff.
BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal has made sure to comment on the same and said that there has not been any thought when it comes it the salary of the Indian cricket teams centrally contract players. He mentioned that the top management has not had any discussions so far over it.

“No, we have not spoken about this (pay cut). Whatever the steps after this setback, it will be taken judiciously and keeping the interest of all people in mind. Any step taken needs to be thought out and right now we haven’t even thought about it. Obviously this is a big setback, but we will go about this in a way that nobody gets affected. These things can be discussed once things settle down,” Dhumal said.
A BCCI source mentioned that a decision on IPL will only be taken once things settle down and the situation improves. “There is no clarity as of now when the situation improves, only then we can take a call. When the picture is so hazy, how can we make a call? Suppose we decide now, but the situation is not clear by April 15th, then what will happen,” the source said.

Asking about the all-important future of Indian Premier League and an opportunity of it getting a separate window the unnamed source commented, “See if we had discussed some permutation or combination last time when we had met with franchises, but this depends on the window we finally get. If there is some window available, then only we can take a call. Right now, the entire country should just focus on when the situation improves.”
