The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced on Wednesday, July 31 that they will take forward all the recommendations of all the IPL franchise owners to the tournament’s governing council as well. However, the BCCI held a meeting with all the owners at their headquarters in Mumbai to discuss changes in the upcoming season in 2025 as well.

While many points were discussed during the meeting regarding the number of retentions before the mega auction, the right-to-match rule and the limit of foreign and uncapped player retention were also some of them. There were also discussions on several commercial aspects of the league such as merchandising, licensing and gaming as well.

“The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday organized a constructive dialogue with the owners of the 10 franchises on various subjects pertaining to the upcoming season of the TATA IPL. The franchise owners tabled feedback on player regulations and other commercial aspects, including central merchandising, licensing, and gaming. The BCCI will now take these recommendations to the IPL Governing Council for further deliberation and evaluation before formulating the IPL player regulations,” said Jay Shah in a media release.

Before the meeting, it was also reported that franchises would decide whether to continue with the Impact Player Rule or not. Notably, the rule became a freshly debated topic in the recent edition after teams broke record books with massive totals. The tournament featured eight 250-plus scores as SRH broke the record for the highest IPL total twice in the tournament as well.

Notably, eight out of the nine highest scores in IPL history featured in the 2024 season only. The season also featured the highest-ever chase in the history of the league as Punjab Kings chased down 262 in 18.2 overs as well. It will be interesting to see whether the IPL governing council continue with the previous rule or come back with something new for the upcoming season.
