Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar was honoured specially as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) inaugurated a boardroom named after him at its headquarters in Mumbai. The boardroom, titled “10000 Gavaskar,” pays tribute to Gavaskar’s iconic milestone of becoming the first batter in the world to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket.

The BCCI shared a video of the ceremony on social media, capturing the emotional moment as Sunil Gavaskar inaugurated the space. The event was attended by BCCI president Roger Binny, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, and secretary Devajit Saikia.

In his speech, a visibly moved Sunil Gavaskar expressed gratitude, saying, “MCA is my mother, and BCCI is my father. This honour means a lot to me. I’m deeply thankful for the opportunities cricket has given me, and even at this age, I’m ready to give back to Indian cricket whenever required.”

Sunil Gavaskar’s remarkable Test career included 10,122 runs in 125 matches at an average of 51.12, with 34 centuries. He also represented India in 108 ODIs, scoring 3,092 runs. His record for most Test centuries stood for years until it was eventually broken by Sachin Tendulkar.
Interestingly, Sachin Tendulkar has also been honoured at the BCCI headquarters with a dedicated “Sachin Tendulkar Room.” The dual tribute highlights the immense contributions of two of India’s greatest cricketing icons.

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also shared his sentiments on X, stating, “Delighted to be part of the inauguration of the Sachin Tendulkar Room and Sunil Gavaskar Room – a heartfelt tribute to two legends whose legacy continues to inspire generations of cricketers.”
