In a sensational development, the BCCI has decided to the life ban of the 35-year-old Ankeet Chavan. He is now 35 years old. He was suspended from all forms of cricket in the wake of a spot-fixing scandal in IPL 2013. Along with him, Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila has also suffered bans. These three players were part of the Rajasthan Royals and also won the trophy in the inaugural edition.
Recently, BCCI’s acting CEO Hemang Amin notified Ankeet that his life ban has been reduced to 7 years and it indicates that his ban will be lifted in late September. Soon after hearing the news, the Mumbai spinner couldn’t control his emotions in the first place. He went on to express gratitude to the BCCI and Mumbai cricket. He breathed a sigh of relief and said he can’t wait to be back on the turf. The spinner’s career now gets a lease of life.

As per the quotes in Cricbuzz, Chavan said, “I cannot say how much I am relieved and can’t wait to be back in the ground. I thank the BCCI and the Mumbai Cricket Association for their help. Once the restrictions are lifted, I will hit the ground and will play. Whether or not I can get back into the Mumbai team, I want to continue playing and I will do that. The process will take care of the rest.”
In 2020, after the Supreme Court’s order, the BCCI decided to reduce Sreesanth’s life ban to 7 years. The right-arm pacer made a stellar comeback for Kerala in the domestic formats. Interestingly, he registered himself for the 2021 IPL auction. He took to Twitter and asked the franchises to buy him.
Sadly, no franchise had shown interest in buying Sreesanth. Since then, Ankeet was doing his maximum best to get his ban reduced. He feels that BCCI and MCA should go with the same rules as they did in the Kerala pacer’s case.

Besides that, he has hit 2 half-centuries and 1 century at the domestic level. As far as his IPL career is concerned, he took 8 wickets from 13 games. It remains to be seen as to when he would make a comeback in the domestic circuit. He would be looking forward to making a comeback just like Sreesanth.
