BCCI Not In Favor Of Organizing Windies Tour Of India At Different Venues

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to restrict the venues of the upcoming limited-overs series between India and the West Indies up to one or a maximum of two. The Covid-19 situation in India is once again getting worse each passing day with the fast spread of the virus in the different parts of the country.

India has registered more than 1 lakh cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, which has led to the panic in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Recently, the Ranji Trophy was postponed due to the Covid-19 spread in different teams. Also, Col CK Nayudu Trophy & Senior Women’s T20 League for the 2021-22 season, have been postponed by the BCCI.

The Windies are scheduled to visit India in February for three ODIs and as many T20Is. The ODI series is scheduled to be commencing on 6 February in Ahmedabad, the second ODI will be played in Jaipur on 9 February and the third ODI will be played in Kolkata on 12 February. Also, the T20I series is scheduled to be taking place in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam, and Thiruvananthapuram.

According, to the reports of Cricket.com the series between India and the West Indies is expected to get restricted to one or two venues in order to curb the bio-security arrangements. Also, the spectators might not be allowed to enter the stadium and watch the games live.

As per the quotes in Cricket.com, a BCCI official said, “Things look bleak and we are positioned to hit the peak of this third wave in February. Organizing matches in six venues will add logistical nightmare.”

A state association official has said that there have been no communications from the BCCI yet regarding the series between India and West Indies being restricted to one venue. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of it.
