The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has recently announced the ODI and Test squads for the upcoming West Indies tour, igniting discussions among fans and experts. The tour comprises a multi-format series, commencing on July 12, featuring two Test matches, three ODIs, and concluding with five T20I matches.

Amidst the squad announcement, one notable omission from the Test squad was 25-year-old Sarfaraz Khan. Known for his outstanding performances in first-class cricket, Khan has been a dominant force and one of the highest run-scorers in domestic cricket.

The exclusion of Sarfraz Khan from the Test squad has triggered disappointment and frustration among fans, who took to social media platforms to express their dissatisfaction with the selectors’ decision. In response to the backlash, a BCCI official provided insights into the recurring omission of Sarfaraz from the Test squad.

While acknowledging the fans’ reactions, the BCCI official shed light on multiple factors influencing the decision to overlook Sarfaraz. “The angry reactions are understandable, but I can assure you that the reason behind Sarfaraz’s exclusion is not solely based on cricketing factors. There are various reasons why he hasn’t been considered. Are the selectors fools to disregard a player who has consistently scored over 900 runs in consecutive seasons? One of the reasons is his fitness, which does not meet international standards,” the BCCI official stated, as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

The BCCI official also emphasized the importance of Sarfaraz Khan’s conduct both on and off the field. Drawing attention to certain statements, gestures, and incidents, the official urged Khan to adopt a more disciplined approach, as it would greatly benefit his career.

“His behavior, both on and off the field, has not been exemplary. Certain incidents and actions have been taken note of. A more disciplined approach would greatly contribute to his progress. Hopefully, Sarfaraz, along with his father and coach Naushad Khan, will work on these aspects,” the BCCI official added.
