The Asian Games 2026 cricket schedule has been announced, but concerns over playing conditions and player facilities have emerged ahead of the continental multi-sport event. Several cricket boards across Asia have reportedly raised questions about the quality of the venue, dressing rooms, and accommodation arrangements for participating teams.
Cricket at the Asian Games 2026 will begin with the women’s competition in September, while the men’s tournament will follow after the conclusion of the women’s matches. All cricket fixtures are scheduled to take place at Korogi Sports Park, a former baseball venue that has been remodelled to host cricket. The venue still retains several features of its baseball background. The playing surface at the centre of the ground consists of a combination of natural and artificial grass, while the stadium has a reported capacity of around 2,000 spectators.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly among the first cricket governing bodies to raise concerns about the venue. Korogi Sports Park last hosted a cricket tournament in May, when it staged the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup East Asia-Pacific Qualifier.

Since then, the ground has reportedly seen limited activity. However, tournament organisers have assured teams that the pitch will offer sufficient bounce during the Asian Games, despite the challenging weather conditions expected in Japan during September. Adam Birss, the Asian Games operations manager at Korogi Sports Park, spoke about the expected nature of the surface. “Bouncy, despite typhoon season usually arriving in Japan in September.”
While concerns about the playing surface remain, accommodation has also become a major talking point ahead of the Asian Games. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly expressed concerns about the size of the hotel rooms allocated to cricketers.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the rooms are considered too small to comfortably accommodate players along with their cricket kitbags and luggage. The BCCI reportedly approached the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in an attempt to find a solution, although the matter could not be resolved because of technical constraints.
Unlike some major multi-sport events where athletes are housed in a dedicated Games Village, Asian Games participants will be accommodated across three categories: a luxury cruise liner, Games Villas and hotels.
According to the Olympic Council of Asia, athletes from sports including cricket, badminton, football and softball will stay in hotels in Nagoya. An official highlighted the difficulties created by the limited room space. “Too small for two people to share, along with their individual kitbags and luggage.”

The official added that opening just one kitbag could leave very little space for a player to move around. “It is a genuine problem, since the rooms are very tiny. We are trying to figure out a solution to this problem.”
With the Asian Games 2026 approaching, organisers will be under pressure to address the concerns surrounding the cricket venue and accommodation before teams arrive in Japan.
