The much-debated yo-yo test introduced by BCCI has become a household phenomenon for the Indian cricket fans. However, the test hasn’t come as a good news for the cricketers for the reason that it is mandatory to clear it in order to get a spot in the Indian squad. Recently, Mohammed Shami, Ambati Rayudu, and Sanju Samson had to face the wrath of the fitness test.
Shami, Rayudu, and Samson were omitted from their senior and A teams respectively and suitable replacements were drafted in place of them. Rohit Sharma is another of those cricketers who failed the test during the IPL and is slated to take part in the test ahead of the England tour in order to prove his fitness. Meanwhile, the board is contemplating over adding another clause to the examination.

The management is planning to conduct the test before selecting the squads for any particular tour. The matter was discussed in the latest meeting of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) where BCCI officials like Saba Karim, the BCCI General Manager of Cricket Operations, Chairman Vinod Rai, Rahul Johri, the BCCI CEO and Diana Edulji was present.
One of the BCCI officials present in the meeting said, “Going forward, players will be picked after they pass the fitness test. The players gave the fitness test after being picked for the UK tour because of the IPL. It puts the players in an awkward situation and it will not be repeated.”
The yo-yo test is conducted on a scale of 25 where a player has to equal or breach the 16.1 mark in order to breach the eligibility criteria of fitness. Virat Kohli, who went through a neck-injury, also took the exam and passed it with flying colors. India will play Ireland in a couple of T20Is following which they will visit England for a Test, ODI, and T20I series.
