The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had reportedly planned a review meeting after India managed just two wins from 10 matches across their recent tours of England and Ireland, but the discussion was eventually delayed. The reigning world champions endured a disappointing run, beginning with a 2-0 whitewash against Ireland in the two-match T20I series, where Shreyas Iyer led the side in his first assignment as captain.
India’s struggles continued in England, where they lost the five-match T20I series 1-3, with one game washed out due to rain. A format change did little to improve results, as Shubman Gill’s men also went down 2-1 in the three-match ODI series that followed.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the review meeting was postponed after BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia fell ill. The meeting is now expected to take place in the coming days, with head coach Gautam Gambhir likely to join virtually.

India’s batting department came under the scanner for failing to adapt to difficult conditions in Ireland and England. Former cricketers pointed to the team’s prolonged exposure to batting-friendly surfaces during the lead-up to the T20 World Cup at home and throughout IPL 2026 as one possible reason behind the lack of adjustment.

Gambhir himself admitted that reading conditions better was an area India needed to improve. Speaking after the third T20I defeat to England, he said that teams must assess not just the pitch but also the game situation, breeze, and ground dimensions, especially in the shortest format where fine margins often decide matches.
In recent months, India’s problems have extended beyond form and results, with injuries becoming a major concern. Jasprit Bumrah was initially named in the Test squad for the Sri Lanka tour but was later ruled out and replaced by uncapped pacer Auqib Nabi. Sai Sudharsan, Harshit Rana, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Reddy are also recovering from fitness issues, intensifying the pressure on team physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain.

With captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir reportedly unhappy over the repeated setbacks to first-choice players, the BCCI is also expected to examine the team’s growing injury list during the upcoming review meeting.
