The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued updates on the medical and fitness status of five players currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The players in focus are Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, and Rishabh Pant.

Jasprit Bumrah, one of India’s premier fast bowlers, has been out of action for about 10 months due to a back injury. His absence led to him missing significant tournaments like the Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022, Border-Gavaskar Trophy, and World Test Championship final.

However, he is now in the final stages of his rehabilitation and has been bowling at full intensity in the nets. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress, and Bumrah will participate in practice games to determine his readiness for a return to competitive cricket.

Prasidh Krishna, a promising white-ball specialist, has been sidelined with a stress fracture since his last appearance for India against Zimbabwe in August 2022. He has also been progressing well and is bowling with full intensity in the nets. Like Bumrah, Prasidh will also be involved in practice games to assess his match fitness before any final decision is made.

KL Rahul suffered an injury during IPL 2023 and underwent thigh surgery, ruling him out of the tournament. Shreyas Iyer, who last played in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023, has been dealing with a back injury. Both players have resumed batting in the nets and are undergoing strength and fitness drills.

The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will continue to monitor their skills and conditioning, considering the approaching ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Rishabh Pant, the talented wicketkeeper-batsman, is recovering from injuries sustained in a car accident on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway last year.

Pant’s rehabilitation has been promising, with significant progress made. Pant has already started batting and keeping in the nets, following a personalized fitness program that focuses on strength, flexibility, and running. The BCCI’s updates provide a ray of hope for Indian cricket fans, with these key players working diligently to regain full fitness and contribute to the team’s success in upcoming tournaments. As the countdown to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 continues, all eyes will be on their progress and eventual return to the field.
