Cricket fans will get a special gift from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) as the board is currently working on a documentary involving all the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises. This will focus on the off-field actions throughout the edition. The Board also added that from now on it will be a 10-team affair with the inclusion of Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans.
As per the news of News9 Sports, each team has been provided with at least a five-member crew for this work as well. Moreover, a central crew of five members will look after the proceedings during the ongoing tournament’s course as well. However, all the matches are taking place in four venues in Maharashtra. The crew members are staying inside a bio-secure bubble created for the franchises. Fans can expect behind-the-scenes footage of dramatic moments that takes place during the course of the two-month-long cash-rich league.
However, Cricket documentaries have picked up pace in the last few years where ‘The Test’ on Amazon Prime documented the Australian cricket team’s path to redemption under the former Test captain Tim Paine and former head coach Justin Langer. ‘Roar of the Lion’, on Disney+ Hotstar, shared the story of the then MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings’ return from a two-season suspension due to their involvement in the IPL spot-fixing scandal as well. Moreover, ‘Cricket Fever’ on Netflix gave insights into Mumbai Indians’ journey in the 2018 Indian Premier League season as well. Notably, they were all franchise-based documentaries.
The BCCI, however, is looking to make a consolidated series including all the 10 franchises. It will be interesting to see an amazing series capturing the highs and lows of each franchise in one of the most famous domestic T20 leagues in the world as well.
