The Supreme Court on Friday revealed that DK Jain, the retired Justice of the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) Ombudsman will decide the quantum of punishment for Indian cricketer S Sreesanth; who was allegedly involved in the spot-fixing scandal in the 2013 IPL. However, last month, the Supreme Court had set aside his life ban which was imposed on him by BCCI and the supreme court asked the BCCI Ombudsman to think twice about his quantum of punishment within three months.
A bench comprised of Justices Ashok Bhushan and KM Joseph said this. Meanwhile, the disciplinary committee, which was earlier looking after Sreesanth’s case is no longer operational and the matter will be referred to the Ombudsman which has been appointed by the Supreme Court. The court had earlier expressed that the disciplinary committee may reconsider Sreesanth’s punishment.

However, last month, the supreme court had also suggested that there will be no effect of the verdict on the criminal proceedings which has been pending against Sreesanth in the Delhi High Court, whereas the Delhi Police has challenged the trial court’s order discharging all the accused who were involved in the IPL spot-fixing scandal, including Sreesanth.
A bench comprised of a single judge of the Kerala High Court had earlier lifted the imposed life ban on the former cricketer by the BCCI and the bench had lifted all the proceedings against him. But later, the division bench of the high court again had restored the ban on him on a petition which was filed by the BCCI against the single-judge bench’s order.
