BCCI Willing To Host A Retirement Match For MS Dhoni After IPL?

Last week, former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni suddenly decided to announce retirement from international cricket on the evening of India’s 74th Independence Day. He was missing the competitive cricket for more than a year. After this decision, a lot of people from the sports fraternity have come up with a demand for a farewell match for the legend. A senior BCCI official said that the board is also in talks with Dhoni to organize the farewell match. If the agreement doesn’t happen, then they have a plan B of organizing an honor ceremony will be held for them.

After an hour with Dhoni, his close friend Suresh Raina also decided to announce retirement. Dhoni last played the one-day World Cup final in July 2019.

Explaining the same during a chat with IANS, a BCCI official said, “There is no international series of the Indian team right now. We can do something after the IPL because Dhoni has done a lot for the country. They are entitled to every respect. We always wanted to have a Farewell match for Dhoni, but Dhoni is a different kind of player. He suddenly announced his retirement. Nobody could think that they would take such a decision so soon. “

When asked of Dhoni has had a chat with any official so far, the official replied, “No, but it is sure that we will definitely talk to him during the IPL. After their consent, they will definitely get a match or series at the right place. Whether they believe it or not, we will hold an honor ceremony for them. It will be a matter of pride for us to honor him. “

On Dhoni’s retirement, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren also put a demand for a farewell match for him. He appealed to the BCCI that Dhoni’s farewell match should be held at his house i.e. Ranchi. It would be a true honor for him.

In his illustrious career, MS Dhoni has played 90 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 98 T20s so far, where he amassed as many as 4876, 10773, and 1617 runs respectively. He led the Indian team in 200 ODIs, out of which men in blue won 110 games. Under his captaincy, Dhoni has won the country T20 in 2007 and ODI World Cup in 2011 and the Champions Trophy in 2013. In December 2014, he retired from Test cricket.
