England wicket-keeper Ben Foakes added a touch of humour to the first Test against India in Hyderabad when he unintentionally dismantled all three stumps in a comical incident. The amusing episode occurred during the third over when Indian captain Rohit Sharma flicked an inswinger from Mark Wood, resulting in a wayward throw from the deep.
In an attempt to prevent potential overthrows, Foakes charged towards the ball but, with his eyes fixed on it, tripped over the stumps and sent all three poles crashing to the ground. The incident brought smiles to the faces of both teammates and on-air commentators.

Despite the lighthearted moment, Foakes’ return to international cricket was less than stellar. The wicketkeeper struggled with the bat, scoring a painstaking four runs off 24 deliveries in England’s first innings. His challenging stay at the crease came to an end when left-arm spinner Axar Patel dismissed him.

The marquee series between India and England lived up to expectations from the opening day of the first Test in Hyderabad. After winning a crucial toss, England made a strong start, reaching 55/0 in the first hour of play.
However, their attacking approach backfired when Indian spinners, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, entered the scene, causing a quick collapse as England slumped to 60/3. A partnership of 61 runs between Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root stabilized the innings, but England eventually found themselves at 155/7.

In a familiar scenario, Captain Ben Stokes played a counter-attacking innings under pressure, scoring 70 off 88 deliveries and guiding England to a respectable total of 246 in their first innings. India’s spin trio, supported by Jasprit Bumrah, played a pivotal role, claiming eight of the ten wickets to fall.
In response, India’s openers, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal, took on the English bowlers from the outset, racing to 73/0 in just 11 overs. The opening pair, especially severe on debutant Tom Hartley, set the stage for an intriguing battle in the ongoing Test series.
