English all-rounders Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes have been ruled out from the remainder ongoing five-match home ODI series against Australia due to their respective injuries.
As England is currently leading the home ODI series against Australia by the 2-0 margin after the second ODI, both the cricketers missed those games. Stokes is suffering from the left hamstring injury while Woakes has an injury at his right knee.
Recently, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has released a statement where they confirmed the news.
According to the latest media release from ECB, Woakes is likely to be missed the upcoming one-off T20I against Australia at home as well as the upcoming three-match home T20I series against India, starting from July 3.
ECB stated on Woakes’ injury status, “England and Warwickshire all-rounder Chris Woakes’ right quad tear, which he sustained at Emerald Headingley in the second Test against Pakistan earlier this month, was at least in part due to a flare-up of a chronic right knee problem.
“He has had an injection for the knee issue last Monday and will now undertake a rehabilitation and conditioning programme to address both injuries. A date for return cannot be specified at this stage, but he will not be available before the India Royal London ODI series.”
Meanwhile, Stokes is likely to be available for the upcoming three-match home T20I series against India as his fitness is improving positively.
ECB stated on Stokes’ fitness, “He can bat fully and is now able to run at 90 percent capacity. He will commence his return to bowling programme this week. The plan is for Ben to continue his rehabilitation programme with the England squad during the 4th and 5th ODIs at Emirates Riverside and Emirates Old Trafford. He is expected to be involved in preparation, with a view to being available to play in the T20Is against India starting next month.”
The third ODI between England and Australia will be played on Tuesday (June 19) at Trent Bridge (Nottingham) as a day/night encounter.
