Chennai Super Kings (CSK) left no stone unturned in buying the English all-rounder Ben Stokes as they spent a whopping amount of INR 16.25 crore in the IPL 2023 mini-auction on Friday (December 23). As expected, Stokes led to a fierce bidding war between IPL giants with CSK placing the winning bid in the end. Notably, the English all-rounder surpassed Indian fast bowler, Deepak Chahar to become CSK’s most expensive buy in IPL history.

Ben Stokes’ former team Rajasthan Royals opened a bid for him and was quickly joined by Royal Challengers Bangalore. Lucknow Super Giants also joined the bidding with an INR 7 crore bid and were joined by Sunrisers Hyderabad. CSK entered the bid for the first time with INR 15.25 crore and seemed inclined to rope in Stokes and they beat LSG finally with a winning bid of 16.25 crore.

Many fans had anticipated that CSK would get Sam Curran also back into the side, but the bidding war turned out to be very intense. Finally, PBKS managed to buy the services as the all-rounder will be back to where it all started. The CSK fans were surely disappointed to see Curran not coming back, but CSK’s send-off tweet for the 24-year-old got everyone’s stomach tickling.
