During the recently concluded tour of Sri Lanka, the English all-rounder Ben Stokes failed to score a century, yet his contribution, especially in the final Test, played a far bigger role as England recorded a rare Test series clean sweep against Sri Lanka. He scored 187 in the series and picked up 20 wickets at an average of 20.40 – best among the England bowlers.
Such was the impact Stokes made in the series that coach Trevor Bayliss said the “exemplary” Durham all-rounder is “the first pick” on the team sheet in his eyes. However, former India batsman, Sanjay Manjrekar claims that Stokes is taking all the credit for the work put in by his England team-mates.

Manjrekar drew a strange analogy on Twitter that compared Stokes with “hardworking chefs” Moeen Ali, Jack Leach and Ben Foakes. Sanjay’s tweet read: “So, you have these hard working chefs who have made a great dish. Someone comes and puts a little garnish on top and he gets all the credit. Moeen, Leach, Foakes are those poor chefs and Stokes the one with the garnish.”

Stokes, not one to relent, was quick to respond. Along with the snoring emoji, he replied, “We don’t care about personal credit – and garnish is pointless on all food anyway. We care about winning. It’s a team sport and we won as a team. 3-0. Cheers Sanjay.”

The Sri Lankan team was left shell-shocked when the visiting English team whitewashed them 3-0 in the recently concluded Test series. England won the third Test by 42 runs as Ben Foakes bagged the Man of the Series. England had won the first two matches by 211 and 57 runs, respectively, and they have registered a Test series win on the Sri Lankan soil for the first time since 2000-01.
