The 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy proved disappointing for India and Virat Kohli. Entering the five-match series with high expectations, Kohli managed only 190 runs in nine innings, falling well short of his usual standards. A glaring issue in his performances was his repeated vulnerability to deliveries outside the off-stump channel.
This persistent flaw raised questions about his adaptability and openness to refining his technique. Former Indian batting coach Bharat Arun shed light on Kohli’s approach to feedback regarding his batting.
Speaking with Subramaniam Badrinath on the latter’s YouTube channel, Bharat Arun explained, “Virat Kohli will definitely seek input. However, when you suggest changes, you must have a strong reason behind them. He’ll ask questions like, ‘What is wrong with my technique?’ and ‘Why am I missing my runs?’ because he’s the No. 1 batter in the world.”

Bharat Arun emphasized that Kohli is inquisitive but also highly self-assured, expecting clarity and justification for any suggested adjustments. India now turns its focus to the upcoming home white-ball series against England, followed by the 2025 Champions Trophy.
These matches could provide Virat Kohli a much-needed opportunity to reset and regain his rhythm after a challenging Test campaign. The shorter formats might help him break free from the pressure of his lean patch in red-ball cricket. Notably, Kohli’s Test average has dipped to 46.85, reflecting his struggles over the past few years.
Despite occasional standout innings, his overall performances have been inconsistent. As India prepares for a crucial five-match Test series against England in June, questions loom over whether the team management will continue to back Kohli in the longest format.

While Kohli remains a modern-day great, his ability to overcome this rough patch will be under scrutiny. Fans and experts alike hope that the white-ball matches serve as a catalyst for him to rediscover his form, ensuring he continues to be a pivotal figure in India’s cricketing journey.
