The Indian bowling coach, Bharat Arun showered praises for the Indian pace battery for their overseas performances this year and stressed on “consistency” as the most important factor while bowling in Australia. The Indian pace attack, comprising of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma, claimed 14 of 20 Australian scalps in the first Test in Adelaide, thus keeping the hosts under pressure in both their batting innings.
During a press conference on Wednesday, when asked if this was India’s best bowling attack of all time, Arun replied, “So far, yes. I can say that not only now, [based on] what they did in Adelaide, but what they’ve done over a period of time, in South Africa, in England and now in Australia. This is probably the best group of fast bowlers India has had.”
While India’s bowlers have had success in Australia in the past, it has come in bursts of brilliance rather than in an extended display of team effort. However, Arun recons that the biggest change over the last few seasons.

Talking about the consistency of the Indian bowlers, the Indian bowling coach said, “I think consistency was a big issue earlier. That’s something we have addressed with the bowlers. This is something they’ve really worked very hard on. They have responded well.”
Ravichandran Ashwin put in a strong performance in Adelaide and played a pivotal role in India’s 31-run victory over the hosts. The India bowling coach was full of praise for his performance in the game.

Describing Ashwin’s contribution, Arun said, “Spinners mature a lot with age, maybe they’re like wine. Ashwin has been really good. He gave us the control in the last match. Bowling close to 90 overs for 147 runs and six wickets – you can’t ask for anything more. That’s the job he was entrusted with and I thought he did that exceptionally well.”

On Tuesday, former English skipper, Michael Vaughan tweeted that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli gave up his business class seats to give the fast bowlers more leg room in the flight from Adelaide to Perth. In support of Kohli’s decision, Arun said a pacer must be cared for like “a racehorse”.
Describing the same, the bowling coach said, “Fast bowlers are a precious commodity, they need to be taken care of – what you do with a racehorse, that’s exactly what’s happening. We are aware that it’s their home conditions. Also, we’re aware of the fact that Australia will be coming hard at us now. But we will stick to the plan that works for us.”
