A brilliant over from Bhuvneshwar Kumar came in between South Africa’s way of chasing a target of 204 runs to win the first T20I against India at Johannesburg.
Scoring 50 runs in three overs to win the game was always going to be tough for them. Having said that, the way in which Reeza Hendricks and Heinrich Klaasen were playing, South Africa wasn’t out of the match.
India’s captain, Virat Kohli, brought back Bhuvneshwar Kumar into the attack. Having already picked a couple of wickets in the match, it was Kumar’s time to show his magic in the death overs.
Kumar swung the pendulum towards India on the first ball itself as he dismissed Hendricks. If this was not enough to jostle South Africa, Kumar further dismissed Klaasen and Chris Morris to put India into a winning position. A last-ball run out of Dane Paterson meant that South Africa had lost four wickets in the same over.
Kumar ended up picking his maiden T20I five-wicket haul and career-best figures of 4-0-24-5. He was adjourned the ‘Man of the Match’ for the same.
