The second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic has had some adverse effects in India for the past couple of months. From Bollywood celebrities to politicians, a lot of people contracted the deadly virus and cricketers are no exception either, as several participants of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 got infected by the coronavirus, BCCI had to suspend the tournament midway. However, now the veteran Indian seamer, Bhuvneshwar Kumar seems to have contracted the virus.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer and his wife Nupur are reportedly undergoing quarantine at their residence in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, after showing symptoms of being infected with COVID-19. The major news comes days after Bhuvneshwar’s mother was admitted to a hospital as she was tested positive for the widely-spreading virus.

Although it’s still not confirmed whether Bhuvneshwar Kumar and his wife have contracted the virus, the couple is reportedly undergoing treatment at home. Notably, his mother tested positive for the disease on May 21, but the entire family rested negative for the virus. Last month, Bhuvneshwar’s father had passed away at 63 after battling liver cancer.

Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar wasn’t included in the Indian squad for the upcoming UK tour where they will be locking horns with New Zealand in the ICC World Test Championship final followed by England for a five-match Test series. Hence, he is expected to feature in India’s limited-overs squad touring Sri Lanka in July for three ODIs and as many T20Is.

However, the COVID-19 infection could force Bhuvneshwar to miss the Sri Lanka tour as well. He should be aware of the fact and will be expecting to attain complete fitness for the white-ball series. Notably, the 31-year-old has been plagued by various injuries that have impacted his international career. Due to the same, he hasn’t played any game in the longest format since January 2018.

With the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to take place later this year in India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will like to make as many games as possible in shorter formats. Notably, the SRH star couldn’t enjoy a great campaign in the now-postponed IPL 2021, taking three wickets in five matches. Hence, he would be determined to make a thumping comeback.
