3. Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, 2013
This was a conflict between two hot-blooded Delhites with extensive talent and similar egos. Virat Kohli smashed Pradeep Sangwan for two sixes and departed when he tried to make it three in a row. The Kolkata Knight Riders were gladdened to see the back of Kohli, but the enthusiastic celebration irritated the departing batsman.
Kohli blasted into the KKR team with a mushy verbal exchange. Not to be left behind, Gautam Gambhir shot back with enthusiasm even as walked angrily toward Kohli. The ego of the two outstanding batsmen was at the peak as they were yelling at each other did a world of good to the TRP hungry television producers.
But neither batsman did any good to the game they pursue. Subordinately, both of them played for Delhi and North Zone down to their employer ONGC. But off the field, both players played down the incident and admitted to a Level One offense (Article 2.1.4). They were charged for using language or a gesture that is indecent, obscene or abusive during the match.
