San Francisco Unicorns batter Finn Allen was left stunned after a bizarre dismissal in the fourth match of the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023 against Seattle Orcas at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas on Saturday, July 15. During the second ball of the fourth over, Finn Allen faced Cameron Gannon. Allen had been dominating the rival bowling attack, hitting two sixes and four boundaries to score 28 runs off just nine balls.

However, Gannon bowled a slower delivery on the leg stump. Allen delicately tipped the ball towards the leg side and started to take a single at a leisurely pace. Sensing an opportunity, Shehan Jayasuriya at the leg-side quickly threw the ball to the non-striker’s end, resulting in Allen’s dismissal.

The unexpected run-out left Allen in disbelief as he walked back to the pavilion, visibly dejected. He had scored 28 runs off 10 balls with a strike rate of 280.00. Seattle Orcas had earlier posted a competitive total of 177 runs in the first innings, with Heinrich Klaasen contributing a half-century (53 off 31 balls).

After Allen’s dismissal, Seattle Orcas’ bowling unit comfortably dismantled San Francisco’s batting lineup, taking control of the game. Despite a quick knock of 37 off 23 balls from Shadab Khan towards the end, it was Cameron Gannon’s four-wicket haul that dashed the Unicorns’ hopes of securing a second consecutive victory.

With two consecutive wins, Seattle Orcas now leads the points table with four points.
