Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s only T20 century ended up in a losing cause as Kochi Tuskers Kerala team managed to upset the home team to register the win by 6 wickets. Mumbai Indians batting first at the Wankhede Stadium has scored 182/2 in their twenty overs, Brendon McCullum led the run-chase to complete the chase in 19 overs. The match took place on 15th April 2011.

Mahela Jayawardene earlier in the night, won the toss and chose to field first. Davy Jacobs and Sachin Tendulkar opened the batting. While the duo struggled to take off runs of RP Singh’s bowling who made the maximum use of the swinging conditions., they capitalized on Vinay Kumar’s bowling.

In a bid to accelerate the run-rate, Davy Jacobs decided to after the bowling following a sedate start. The plans failed as he got bowled for 12 by Raiphee Gomez. Ambati Rayudu joined Tendulkar at the crease in the 19th over. The duo batted almost till the end.

By the 20th over, Mumbai Indians had blasted Thisara Perera for 38 runs, Vinay Kumar for 48 runs, Gomez for 29 runs in 3 overs and Ramesh Powar for 12 runs in his single over. Before the last over began, Sachin was not out at 90 off 61 balls.

Sachin got on strike on the second ball of the over. He was peppered by a short ball from Vinay Kumar to start with. SRT needed 10 from 4 balls to score his century. Pick-up sweep on the next ball helped Sachin with four runs. 6 needed from 3 balls.

Next ball was eventful. There was only one run on well-jammed yorker from Vinay Kumar. Rayudu ran the second desperately to hand the strike to Sachin but he was run-out. Sachin got to the strike though. With five needed from two balls, Sachin scored another four. He was now on 99* with one ball remaining.

The last ball of the over was a low full-toss from Vinay Kumar. Sachin drove it elegantly through the extra-cover region top bring up his first and the last century in the third format of the game. The 66-ball century elated the Wankhede crowd.

The second session of the game kept the crowd on mute though as Mahela Jayawardene and Brendon McCullum mounted a blasting opening partnership of 128 runs in the first 14 overs. Ravindra Jadeja then came in and smashed 25 from 11 balls with two boundaries and two sixes. Brad Hodge and Jadeja struck the finishing blows to take an infamous win for the now-defunct team.
