On this day in IPL 2013, Kieron Pollard smashed a blistering knock of 66 from 27 balls to take Mumbai past the Sunrisers Hyderabad. After celebrating his birthday on the 12th May, Pollard presented a birthday gift to SRH and MI fans as he took apart the bowling attack at the Wankhede Stadium. In the final result, Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets.

Chasing 179 to win, Pollard played a heroic knock to snatch victory from a near defeat. The big-hitting West Indian all-rounder smashed six huge sixes off successive overs bowled by Thisara Perera and Amit Mishra to bring down the target from 62 required off 24 balls to 13 of 12.

Kieron Pollard was at his destructive best as he swung the match in his team’s favor after the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar was retired hurt in the 12th over. This proved to be the last match for Sachin Tendulkar in the IPL. Losing Dinesh Karthik in the same over, Mumbai lost two quick wickets to be left stranded at 100 for three in 14 overs.

Pollard stitched an unbeaten partnership of 85(37) for the fourth wicket with the captain Rohit Sharma, who made an unbeaten 15-ball 20, to romp his side home with three balls to spare. Sharma was reduced to a mere spectator as it was the man from the Caribbean, who took the onus on himself and smashed eight massive sixes.

Earlier SRH had scored 178/3 in their first innings. Shikhar Dhawan top-scored with 59(41) while Cameron White smacked 43(23) at the end. Lasith Malinga was the pick of the bowlers with 2/26.
